SQL change tracking over the Internet RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been looking into the new Local Database Cache with VS 2008 SP1 Beta. If change tracking is used with SQL Server 2008, can this the be used securely over the Internet? Or is just for LAN scenarios?

    Thanks

    Danny

  • Ok, if this is the your concern, then you probably need to think of using https or other security/encription features for the data sending across the internet, not the sql change tracking whose scope is limited within a sql server.

    Hi Danny,

Sql change tracking is purely a sql engine feature to help track the local changes on the local db tables so it cannot be used cross the wire.

  • The local database would be SQL Server Compact 3.5 on the client and this would be synchronized with SQL Server 2005 on the Server. Not sure what you mean?

    Cheers

  • If the the client is synchonizing over the Internet to SQL Server 2008, this data could be compromised.

    Thanks
