How can I login to WHS admin session from internet? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to login to admin session where I run several tasks time to time when I am travelling. I use WHS remote access to get to WHS management console and then use 'To desktop' to open a remote session to access the desktop of WHS. Now my problem is that when I use 'To desktop' I can't login into the admin session. It always open a new session. If I am in LAN, I can use 'mstsc /v:ip /admin' to open the admin session.

Does anyone know a way for me to access admin session from internet=?

    Thanks!

  • An unsupported way would be to redirect port 3389 in the router to the server, adjust the Windows Firewall scope for the Remote Desktop exception to allow access from all networks and access the server via Remote Desktop client.

If you go this way, you should ensure, that the Administrator password is really secure and you do not try to access your WHS from any compromised (infected) system.
