Can not bootup after install windows home server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I used the trail version, the mother board is GIGABYTE GA-EG41M-US2H LGA 775 Intel G41 HDMI Micro ATX with a P4 1.8G, 1G memory, one 120G ATA hard drive and one 40G SATA.  The desktop use to be very stable what ever running linux or windows.

This is the first time I try windows home server, the experience is really bad.  It is very easy to boot from DVD and but after the first time reboot, the computer boot to some blue screen setup program for server 2003.  I understand Windwos home server is based on server 2003, so I do not feel strange with that.  But after the reboot from this, the computer just stopped at before it boot to any system.  If I put the DVD into ROM, computer go to fresh install the system again.  And I tried the same issue happened again.

Could anybody give some hint about that?  Thanks a lot.

  • This BSOD comes up due to Windows Server 2003 not containing SATA drivers. Either provide those on a floppy disk during initial part of the classic setup screen (if asked for pressing F6 to load additional drivers) or easier change the SATA controller mode in Bios to IDE//ATA/PATA compatible mode.
Since the installation is usual not part of the end user experience (Windows Home Server was designed as OEM only product, so integration of drivers would be the matter of the OEMs) there has been no need to improve this part.

  • Thanks a lot.  It is works after I changed the mode of SATA.  I had the same problem before with XP, and I do not know I will have it again in 2010.
