Use of Standard Edition in Edge Roles RRS feed

  • Question

  • Two questions relating to Edge servers:

    1. Can Standard Edition be used as on an Edge Server. My understanding is that it can.

    2. If so, can you scale out the AV and Web Conferencing Edge Servers (again all using SE). My understanding is that you can not scale out - but with SE you just have the limitations of a single edge server with all edge services co-located.

  • Thomas,

You certainely can use a perimeter Edge Server with an internal Standard Server deployment scenario.  But if you are asking if both the Standard Server installation AND the Edge installation can be performed on the same physical box, then I wouldn't think so.  It's certainely a complete violation of all the deployment design scenarios and best practices, and I'd assume that the setup wizard would not allow both to be installed.

What I was asking was whether you can use Standard Edition for an edge servrer and whether you can scale this out. My undertanding is yes, you can use SE as an Edge server and no you can not scale out the MCUs.
