Hi,
1- Yes it is possible doing some jquery code in a hidden content editor webpart inserted in the PDP. We used to do it on a large implementation and I wrote a post about it but unfortunately I could retrieve the entire code thus you cannot use it. But maybe you'll find some references on internet, like this:

2- Here is a blog post from Paul for setting the custom fields width in a PDP.
