Hardwardware upgrades and WGA RRS feed

  • Question

  • I currently have a 3 year old Dell Dimension 4500 my wife had in college. I am planning on upgrading the computer with a new CPU, video card, RAM, and hard drive. I remember something about when you upgrade a certain percentage of your computers hardware you have to revalidate your Windows XP. We have long since lost the original CDs that came with the computer and I'm wondering if the WGA software will work instead of having to actually put the CD into my computer. Thanks!

  • Hi Scottreuter,

Yes, when you upgrade a large percentage of your hardware, XP will require you to re-activate. To reactivate does not require you to still have your XP cd.  Note: if activating by the Internet returns an error, then you will need to use the Activate by Phone method instead.

    Hope that answers your question,
