TechNet Wiki Translation – English is Missing RRS feed

Answers

  • Hi, I am one of the folks behind the TechNet Wiki.  I believe I can clear this up :)

The current TechNet Wiki was deployed as an English Wiki instance. The Translation Widget was told the source content is English and cannot be changed by Wiki users.

We do hopw to provide an expanded experience with additional Wiki instances for other languages. The Translation Widget will be geared towards that specific language.

For now, this means that any language other than English in the current instance of the Wiki will not be translated by the widget. You could use the Bing translator for Internet Explorer.

  • Hi Santhosh !

Its because the originator of this wiki has posted it as an English Article.

If you click to Transalte it ti French or someother language , you will see it shows its translated from English to French or other language.

I think it responsibility of the author to identify the correct language.

Please let me know if this doesn’t work for you. Hope I have answered you correctly.

    Thanks,
    Hasham

  • I cannot find any Wiki articles where English is one of the options. I tried ones in 4 different languages.

  • That could be the reason.  But why can’t we convert it back to English? I know English to English is not a “translation” but if there is nothing to translate it should be in English.  Or somehow the translator should detect the language.  By default Microsoft translator has the “Auto-Detect” functionality.  My question is why can’t we use that functionality to detect the language other than asking the author to manually pick the language?

That article was just an example.  There are many articles like these in TechNet WiKi.  These are not useful for English reading people.

    Here are some more examples:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/3841.aspx

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2538.aspx

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2508.aspx

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2426.aspx

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2457.aspx

“Looks” like these are good articles but English reading people can’t read any of these.
