Windows Disk Protection disabled somehow, can't re-enable. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Last time around using the shared computer toolkit the computer ended up a mess, with disk protection disabled and a bunch of user restrictions unlocked. Thought things might be a bit more stable with SteadyState 2.0 so running a new build with that at the moment. Somehow Windows Disk Protection has been disabled, I think it may have something to do with hung updates but not sure (scheduled Windows updates would hang on the 'this computer is being updated' screen for hours). If I try and re-enable it I get stuck in a Windows couldn't start, do you want to try safe mode loop. Safe mode doesn't work but last know good configuration gets the system booted again, albeit without Windows Disk Protection. Any ideas?

  • As WDP is very sensitive to the hard drive problems, please do defrag the system partition and check the hard drive with “chkdsk /f” command. After that, please check if WDP can be enabled or not.
