Product Key failed activation RRS feed

  • I recently bought a dell desktop and I go to activate my copy of windows and it gives me 45116 error which tells me that my copy has an incorrect product key.... I need help and I only have about 22 days left to get it done....HELP ! !! !!

    Please contact Dell Support at http://support.dell.com/ and request help about the said error number.  It seems not related to Genuine Advantage Validation issue.

    Dell activated your product already.  Please refer to their knowledge base:

    The following scenarios do not require product activation:
    If you purchased your computer directly from Dell with Windows XP preinstalled, the operating system is activated prior to your receiving the computer.
    If you purchased your computer directly from Dell with Windows XP preinstalled and then decide to reinstall the operating system using the Windows XP CD, you will not have to activate your copy of Windows XP if you install the operating system by booting to the CD.
    If you purchased your computer directly from Dell with Windows XP preinstalled and then decide to reinstall the operating system using the Windows XP CD, you will not have to activate your copy of Windows XP if you do not format the hard drive prior to installation.
    You perform a Windows XP repair.

    The following scenarios will require product activation:
    If you purchased your computer directly from Dell with Windows XP preinstalled and then decide to reinstall the operating system using the Windows XP CD, you will have to activate your copy of Windows XP if you reinstall the operating system without booting directly to the CD.
    If you purchased your computer directly from Dell and received a Windows XP Upgrade CD from Dell, you will have to activate your operating system using the Windows Product Activation wizard if you format your hard drive prior to installation.
    You perform significant hardware changes or upgrades to your comptuer.
