When NOT to Sync. HELP Needed. RRS feed

  • Question

  • This is an interesting use case.  I have synctoy running between two PCs.  One of my workflows is when creating some CD rips or downloading new iTunes songs, I use the "automatically add to iTunes" folder feature to update the other PC.  The result is an exact copy of the file being placed on the second PC, in exactly the right folder and automatically added to iTunes.

    All good so far...

Now when I run synctoy, it sees the new file on the second PC and says "hey! thats a newer file because the date stamp is newer than one on the other PC, I guess I should copy it over!".  In effect, Synctoy is copying the same file back over to the other PC needlessly, these files are already identical.

    With me so far?

My question is how to STOP it from copy the same file back over needlessly?  (Synctoy needs to use more intelligence that just a date/time stamp...)

    1) Yes, I could exclude that particular folder from Synctoy, but then I'm creating a whole bunch of exceptions
