How to reclaim MSOffice Home & Student 2007 license for a crashed and now replaced computer RRS feed

  • Question

  • Here is my situation. I had 2 computers and was therefore using 2 license. My computer crashed and burned so I could not uninstall it. I figured no problem, I have 3 license. I just installed Home & Student on my new computer. Now I want to purchase another computer and install Home & Student on it.

I am thinking this should be legal. Three computers and three licenses. I am guessing the problem is that the system will show that I have used all 3 licenses.

How do I reclaim my old license from my dead computer that is now just a bulky door stop. Is there a number I can call to talk with someone from MS about reclaiming the unused license?

I hope I have posted this to the correct forum and I appreciate your help.

You don't and can't - simply install on the PC, and if you're asked to activate by phone, then do so, and explain the circumstances to the operator. They are usually pretty understanding.

  • Hello cralford,

I'd like to second what Noel posted.

The Office product activation system allows a lot of wiggle room when it comes to activating, so the customer always gets the benefit of the doubt in a situation like yours.  Your new installation on a new computer will simply "bump" the old installation out of the way.  It's very unlikely that you'd have to activate by phone, but if you do, it usually takes less than 7 minutes to do so.

  • Thanks for the answers. I will call when I need the other license. I am assuming I can find the support number somewhere on this site.

It should come up automatically when/if the automatic activation fails.

    Good luck
