Activity Owner Changed in 700 records - Don't know why RRS feed

  • Question

  • Using: CRM 4.0 onsite, Rollup 11

The Activities regarded to one of my Accounts has changed owner to the CRM user of the system.  The person who originally made the activity is still listed in the organizer field, but the owner has been changed to CRM.  This has happened to all activity that was in the system regarding this account or it's contacts, on 7/12/11.

Each properties of each activity show that one of my users (that does not have direct DB rights or Admin rights at all) last modified it on 7/12/11.  This is for Open Activities as well as Closed activities.

I can't find anything in the system logs from within the CRM application - is there a table I access through the DB to see if there is an event on this day?  I'm thinking it has to be a process because it updated over 700 records at once and updated closed records.

There has been no change from the out of the box relationships so I don't think it's a cascading error - unless someone knows of one that would do this out of the box.

No workflows are active on this system.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

  • did you by chance change the owner of this account? If you changed the account owner that probably cascaded down to all activities and the owner was changed there as well. This behavior is defined through relationships in the account entity definition.

  • Thanks for the reply- is this relationship set out of the box?  Because I didn't change anything with relationships between Accounts and Activities.

Also - if I change this relationship, what could it do to my system?  Is this something I need to take a back up of my system and make sure all users are out for?

  • I do not have a CRM 4.0 instance right now but yes the relations do come out of the box.

You can go ahead and customize the entity and edit the relationship and change the cascade settings. You can change it to Cascade Active Only, this will only change the owner of the Open activities/records to the new owner. If you do not want the owner for related activities to be changed then set it to Cascade None.

It does not really affect the database but if you are doing it for the very first time, it is better to backup rather than be sorry later.

  • With the relationship from Account to Appointment, there are a couple of options of cascading - most are self explanatory, but can you help me understand the Reparent one?  It seems that this is the one that did this, yes?

I never want ownership to ever cascade down to other records.  I believe that I should changed Account to Appointment relationship Reparent to none, as well as the contact to appointment relationship like this.  Is this right?

Thank you so much for your help.
