browser redirect issue question RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi,

On one of my systems, sometimes, when I use my browser to go to a web address, it goes there, but after a few seconds, the page changes to a search result entitled (Zinky Search Results excedra) and shows a list of search suggestions. I have completely scanned the machine and it is clean. I have onecare installed on some of my systems, however this machine has norton internet security 2009 subscription. But, they say the system is clean. What is Zinky search and how do i resolve this? Any help is appreciated

  • Hi Diana, usually when a browser is redirected to an unknown search page I would suspect malware. I didn't find any useful results for Zinky Search on the web. I suggest checking in at the Internet Explorer newsgroups - http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general&cat=en_us_28cca3eb-7037-4d4f-bde1-d8efee1f1420&lang=en&cr=us and I would recheck your system with an online scanner such as the Eset Online Scanner - http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

  • Hi Jim,

You were right.  The problem machine is being scanned at the eset online scanner. The scan is only 46% complete, but it has detected 3 infected files already with (Win32/Adware,Agent.NMA application). I am wondering why Norton didn't find it. The redirect issue has been going on for atleast a couple weeks now. I have norton set to scan daily at 2:00am. All it ever picks up is an occasional tracking cookie, but I always choose to delete all tracking cookies. Norton is always kept up-to-date, and I have a year subscription. Since norton didn't pick-up on this, should I report it to them anyway?
ps: I am posting from my laptop, and it has onecare running on it, and this was in onecare general, so, how am I off topic and why was my thread moved? I think it is on topic?

  • Why was this thread moved? I was posting from my laptop, with onecare running on it. And the post was in onecare general.? Did I miss something.

I have multiple machines, onecare only covers two of them. I was asking a question about another machine, but I still wasn't off-topic.Please move it back where it was.

  • Diana, any question not related to One Care is off topic. Since the question is regarding an issue on a computer where One Care is not installed, it is absolutely off topic and therefore belongs here.

  • Hi Jim,

I understand your way of thinking. I didn't look at it that way. You win. Thanks for your reply.
