  • Question

  • All the forum I have been on today have been WAY slow. It isn't my system because I have a real-time cpu monitor and it shows no real usage to this 3960X.

You all need to get this thing running!

  • Right, known issue. Long term fix, implement thread paging. Short term fix (not great for threads with > 200 replies) is going out tomorrow. CPU still spikes but at least it eventually loads, this is a big one: (only click if you want cpu spiked or browser to hang ...potentially)   http://qa.social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/Vsexpressvb/thread/17db9176-32a2-44b1-902c-11b41fbb7ad6

  • This thread was NOT slow yet. It the long threads that are slow.

My connection speed is 1 Mip. My ISP is verizon. My browser is Explorer 8 and my OS is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. I am running a 3960X with 16 gigs of memory. Microsoft is the only vendor that is slow and really I usually use this forum.

I am particularly describing this forum.

What aspect of Fiddler would you like?

There is an issue with the long threads. Currently the next revision toward improving the load time is planned for early February.

  • Can you include:

    • Your connection speed
    • Browser type/version
    • OS
    • Which forums you are describing
    • Possibly a fiddler trace you can share out

    This would really help us

    Renee,

Also, could you specifically drop a few links of actual threads. Like was this one slow? I'm curious if it's associated with long thread issues or other similar issues we're tracking/looking into.

    Thanks!

  • There was a l-o-n-g thread years ago called "Why I would not Learn VB". I doubt your servers could handle that thread now.

  • Actually, I worked for DEC as an OS developing engineer. I think all interpetive languages should be abandoned. Strictly speaking, VB is not interpetive but it is compiled "in the moment". I very much dislike C for political reasons. I loved Bliss32 but it's no longer with us :(.

  • Naomi,

I just joined your blog. It's nice! Should I abandon VB will always generate heat. It's a guaranteed debatable.

  • "Why you should not learn VB!"is  in VB Express. I never thought it would finish loading. It's been about 25 minutes now and it still hasn't completed although the CPU activity monitor I wrote shows a fair amount of activity so it's trying.

  • Hi Ed,

The thread used to be fine which suggests some deterioration. I hope you all are very successful.

This thread? I'm wondering if it slowed down more as it got longer.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

  • I don't notice a slowdown on a thread of this size. I do notice that explorer keeps my very fast cpu 'occupied' while a thread is slowly loading.
