Windows 7 not genuine message RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I recently traded my HP Pavilion Elite for a custom built PC. I needed it to run Pro Tools MP 9. Upon power on my desktop turned black and bottom right corner said windows 7 not genuine. I tried to activate windows it didn't work. So... I have this feeling in the pit of my stomach that Windows 7 was pirated. Anyway I contacted the seller and told him this, he claims it is valid. So I'm posting on here to find out. I have already told him that I will be running tests to find out if it is valid or not and if it comes up that its not valid or was pirated then he will be buying me a fresh new windows 7 professional box. Anyway, here is the diagnostics report. Thanks again guys.

  • That has cleared the errors - and left the Default Key in place.

    Since you appear to have no valid Key, the system is in  the grace period - which allows you a further 28 days to access a valid Key and install it into the system.

    I suggest that you contact your vendor and explain the law to them - either they provide what you (presumably) paid for, or you contact the police (in fact the FBI, in the US) and the various trade organisations, in respect of software piracy and fraud - or they give you a significant refund towards purchase of a legal retail license.

  • Actually I can see it already...

    Licensing Data-->
    Input Error: Can not find script file "C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs".

    I'm sure that's referring to the Windows 7 license.

    Looks like he will be buying me a new Windows 7 Professional box from Bestbuy.

    Anyway if anything else sticks out let me know. I'm no computer guru, so any advice or anything that sticks out let me know. Thanks again.

  • The installed Key is  the Default Key for Windows 7 Pro, which can never be legally activated.

    If your system is genuine, it should have a COA sticker on the case - does it?

    The error in the report is one which is often the result of using a hacker's tool to bypass Activation and validation requirements.

    See what happens with this.....

    Download WATFix - make sure that you UNTICK the box for the 'download manager, and click on the link on the left of the page, not the big shiny button on the right (which is an ad for the download manager!!) - and use that - extract the .exe file, and run it, then reboot.

     Post back with another MGADiag report, and we'll then see what we can see.

  • hey, thanks for getting back to me. As I stated before the computer was custom built. Meaning some guy bought all different parts and made a PC. So There is no COA stickers anywhere. Anyway here is the new MGADiag report...
