Advice for multi server deployment. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm deploying CRM 4.0 into a multi server environment which already hosts SharePoint. The environment consists of 2 x WFE's, 1 x Application server and 2 x SQL Servers in an Active/Passive cluster.

Can someone give me some pointers on deployment; things to watch out for, gotchas, etc. Recommendations for which roles to deploy to which servers. My intial thought was to deploy the Application roles on the 2 x WFE's and the Platform role on the Application server.

The servers are all x64. Also, I plan to use SSL for this.

    Thanks.

  • if Sharepoint server can accomodate the CRM IIS app role, then load CRM on that server.(Just make sure the port will be used for CRM is not used by sharepoint like port 80!) Install ssrs also on there for reporting(no need for ssrs connector). If you foresee that the CRM server will have a large amount of workflows' load the asynchronous service on its on server platform.(can be done at a later stage aswell) Setup dbs on cluster environment. Always update your installtion files on 64 Bit via web before installing CRM. The planning and installatiuon guide for CRM can be very specific for you in this regard! Good luck!

  • Thanks Tiaan.

I have SharePoint installed on 3 servers, the 2 web front-ends serve the pages/content and the third server manages background tasks, management, etc. I guess what I'm asking is; are the CRM roles of Application equivalent to WFE's and the Platform role equivalent to a SharePoint application type role?
