Office 2007 professional not genuine?

Question
-
over a year ago I purchased a copy of office 2007 professional on line. It came with a hologram disc and licence labels, it passed the validation process and has worked fine since. However, I have recently started recieving a message when I open office applications telling me that it is not genuine.
Is is the case that I may have a non genuine copy or coulkd there be something else wrong?
What can I do in both scenarios?Thursday, September 17, 2009 10:41 AM

Office Professional Plus 2007 is a Volume Licensing edition of Office 2007 not authorized for sale to individuals, and it was installed with a Volume Licensing Key that was generated by a pirating program known as a "key generator" or keygen for short. In other words, the Volume Licensing Product Key used to install this copy of Office was made up by a pirating program that generates Product Keys that can unlock software; this Product Key was never an official, valid Product Key issued by Microsoft.
If you purchased this copy of Pro Plus thinking it was a retail license for Office 2007 Professional, you are probably the victim of counterfeit software. Nongenuine/counterfeit copies of Office 2007 Professional Plus being sold as retail copies of Office 2007 Professional are all too common on the internet.
IMO your first course of action should be to contact the seller of Office 2007 and inform them that you will be returning your software for a full refund because it is pirated software. As an individual consumer, the seller should never have sold you a Volume Licensing edition of Office, and certainly should not have sold you any software with pirated "keygen" Product Keys. DO NOT settle for getting another Product Key for Office that might work for a while---your seller has already cheated you once.
Alternately, you can submit a piracy report by following the prompts that the OGA Notifications Utility is showing you, and please be sure to read the Office Genuine Advanatage FAQ to see if you qualify for discounted or complimentary replacements for your nongenuine Office software:

I have experienced the same problem together with many other I understand. In certain cases it is due to a recent Microsoft update I am told which has affected the registry. In my case each part of Office - Word, Excel etc - had to have a minor change, in my case a 3 was changed to a 0 but beyond that I can't helpWednesday, October 7, 2009 5:02 PM

Thanks. How did you find out the solution to your problem, i.e. that a 3 had been changed to a 0?
I have also run into a brick wall trying to report the problem to Microsoft and apply for the genuine free replacement copy they advertise. I tried following the link to fill in the form detailing the purchase but when I tried to submit it the system would not do it. I think it claimed to be a Direct-X problem. So I tried to bring the form up on another computer and it would not let me. I think you can only get to the fully functionning form when you use the computer which has failed the validation test. Unfortunately, from the way my machine is behaving it seems it is the Office Professional 2007 package which is causing my Direct-X problem. That means there is no way I can apply for the free replacement--does anyone know of anyone who has successfully applied for a free replacement package?
All I want to do is to be able to ring someone up at wretched Microsoft and say this is my problem: if it is a real fraud let me tell you all the detail and send you the illegle disks and get the replacement, or tell my how your diagnostic test is messing up so that I can resolve the problem and get on with using the software!
I know Microsoft are loosing a huge amount through fraud, and I support their desire to stamp it out, but this kind of problem with inadequate customer support is making enemies. I have wasted so much time now!
So the question: (a) has anyone successfully applied for a genuine replacement for a fraudulent disk & (b) how can I apply if this machine cannot interact properly with Microsoft accross the web?Wednesday, October 7, 2009 6:08 PM -
Hello James Bloice Smith,
In your previous thread http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuineoffice/thread/c7b58fea-5246-42aa-88dc-8244ac7ff5a2 you stated that the seller/supplier was willing to provide you with a replacement for your nongenuine copy of Office.
Have you taken them up on this offer?

The vendors wanted to send me a replacement and if that failed they said they would replace. I said I would not do that because I could not afford the time, so wanted my money back without trying another copy from them. After that it all went silent!
However, alongside this I was trying to report the situation to Microsoft and get the offer of a genuine free replacement, which wasted still more time and was unsuccessful, as I have described.
There was a good twist eventually, however, I initiated a complaint through PayPal and the money was refunded. There was no explanation, so I do not know if PayPal covered the loss or if the vendors paid. For that reason I did nothing further with the case.
Unfortunately, whilst no financial harm has been done I have lost a significant amount of time, much of which has been trying to get sense out of Microsoft's so called 'Help Pages'. I am not happy about that. Microsoft do need to go after the bad boys and I would never knowingly use illegal software, but I think Microsoft should make it easier for me to get the answers I need quickly and painlessly. It felt like they wanted to sell me a replacement as quickly as they could and every other option has proved difficult or unworkable.
In all honesty, I remain not 100% convinced that the software was illegal and I am nervous that when I purchase a new package of Office Professional 2007 that will also fial.Wednesday, October 7, 2009 7:18 PM -
Hello James Bloice Smith,
An alarmingly high percentage of software sold on internet auction sites is nongenuine software, so my suggestion would be to avoid such selling venues, regardless of how attractive the prices might appear to be.
Buy your software from retailers, both local and online, that you have heard of before, and as always, deals that are "too good to be true" are just that. Or you can buy directly from Microsoft, too.
It is regrettable that you were not able to get your computer to work with the Microsoft site that would have enrolled you in the complimentary replacement program. However, looking thru your previous thread, I did not see anything about running into technical difficulties while attempting to process your report. Perhaps assistance from a moderator in this forum would have enabled you to complete the task.

I gave up on the whole thing because a refund came through.
I did not purchase from an auction but from an online company who looked absolutely legitimate and the payment method was with PayPal.
The product is incredible if it is a forgery: the box is spot on, including the holagramme, and so is the the disk.
I would still like to know if anyone gets the free genuine replacement software on offer on the Microsoft site? It is on the page which comes up when a package is flagged as inauthentic and you click for more information. I should add that the offer is in the side margin, in fairly small print, whilst the items for sale is at the top of the page so no one can miss it!
So, does anyone get the offer? Yes or No?Wednesday, October 7, 2009 7:57 PM -
Hello James Bloice Smith,
When I work with someone whose end solution is to submit their materials for evaluation for the complimentary offer, most of the time I remember to ask them to come back here and let us know how they do with the submission and getting the complimentary replacement.
Not a lot of people will bother to return to the forum after getting their replacements...I think that's just human nature. But, so far only people who received the complimentary replacement for Windows have come back to tell us they did. MS says it can take 4-6 weeks for the process to work.
I suspect that since the new Office Notifier has been rolling out to various countries since the end of August, we will be coming up on the time frame for hearing back from those who have submitted their Office materials for evaluation and possible replacement.

That sounds like a 'No!' As in, no one you know has successfully got the replacement software complimentary offer from Microsoft!
At some point you look at the time taken with the Microsoft 'Help Pages' and decide to cut your losses and loose the money and purchases again. For me that happened sooner becauses I got a refund from or through PayPal!Thursday, October 8, 2009 7:55 AM -
