What do I need to get started with Dynamics CRM development RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys,

Last Friday my boss told me he would be sending me on a 3 day Dynamics CRM development training course (Extending Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011).

I have no prior knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, but am experienced with other CRM systems. I have a Visual Studio Professional with MSDN licence for development currently, so I can easily create virtual machines for server & client and visual studio for development but after checking my subscription level, it does not include Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011.

I wanted to know what is required to get a test environment set up, so that I can get some practice in before going on the course. Do I need a developer licence for testing? I'm worried about the prices here even though my company will be paying. We are only small and this is a huge cost to us if this is the case. It's over £5000 for a CRM developer MSDN licence.

I guess I will need the following things to set up the environment.

    1. Virtual Machine (Windows Server 2008 R2) - Server
    2. Visual Studio 2012
    3. Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Software Development Kit (SDK)
    4. Dynamics CRM 2011 Developer Training Kit
    5. SQL Server 2008 R2
    6. Virtual Machine (Windows 7) - Client

And finally I suppose the actual Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 software.

Please add to List if i missed anything important out.

    Thanks,

    Iain
