WHS console won't start unless you click "skip", then there's no backup functionality RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have the old 32-bit WHS, HP MediaSmart server. It is running the latest updates; at least, I have not refused any.

I have an external (USB) drive for backing up the server disks, and use the backup feature of the server.

Today when I try to run the WHS console to start a backup, the console won't start. It tells me that some feature has failed, and offers to skip that feature. When I tell it to skip I get a console w/o any backup functions, not very useful to me since that's all I use the console for.

Has some update in the past month or so broken the backup functions? Is there some way to run a backup from the command line without using the console?

The HomeServer event log contains several occurrences of event 2315, "The Windows Home Server Console cannot open because the following file is blocking it: C:\Program Files\Windows Home Server\HomeServerConsoleTab.Health.dll"
