Can WHS use drives/shares on other machines as part of the disk "cloud"? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I currently have a hardware RAID 5 machine running 2003 and am using that as my network storage.  I really would like to try WHS, but I was unable to install it on my machine because WHS won't recognize the drives.

I've seen some people here tinker around and get it working, but it is probably not worth the effort on my part.

If I were to buy a WHS server, would it be possible to "attach" the drives from the 2003 server to the WHS server so I could use that extra disk space?

    Thanks

  • Hi,
only physically attached drives are supported. Windows Home Server needs full control over storage drives, which is not given for any NAS or other share solution.
You only could use this storage for scripted backups of your shared folders and maybe the backup databaes (which both is unsupported).
