Can see the CRM ribbon in some contacts only RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

Just installed DCRM4 for internal use. Server is working fine as far as we can tell.

Installed Outlook client. Installed OK with no errors.

But when I go to contacts and try to track contact inside CRM, I find that on some contacts the CRM ribbon bar is available yet on most it is not.

If I click on the TRACK BUTTON in the toolbar, I get the following error:

"This item type is not valid for promotion to Microsoft Dynamics CRM"

I would be most grateful if someone could please assist me.

    Jay

  • OK. Sorry guys. Found out what it was.

The contact type was not IPM.CONTACT.

For others who may have this issue, all I did was export them out and re-import them back in to replace the originals.

    Job done.

  • This free tool from microsoft will allow you to change the contact message class from IPM.Contact.OlTrans (bad) to IPM.Contact (good). I have confirmed it works with CardScan 8.0.5 and Outlook 2010.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/201089

    1. Download the Omsgclas.exe package and run it to extract a word doc and readme txt
    2. Open the word document and enable macros (if prompted)
    3. A dialog box will pop up. For "Item type" select "Contact"
    4. For "New" type "IPM.Contact"
    5. Click Analyze Items (you should see the IPM.Contact.OlTrans listed here)
    6. Select Process Items (this will change the contacts form)

You will need to run this macro every time you transfer contacts from CardScan to Outlook.
