Cannot Delete Backup from External Hard Drive Even After Going through the Steps RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've tried changing the security settings, both through the interface and through cmd, as well as sharing the folder, trying to delete it on other computers, using the administrators setting, etc., but still I cannot delete the folder with my old backup on it. I need to free up my hard drive and really don't want to change the security settings for 3600+ folders (the only way I've been able to delete anything). Help?

  • Sometimes the process requires working your way up from a lower level folder. Change the settings for the specific computer name backup folder first. Apply to all sub-folders. In Explorer, show hidden files and folder. Select all files wthin the backup folder for that computer. Then delete the folder. Repeat for any other folder branches within the top level OneCare backup folder. When all folders are gone, move up a level and change the settings for the top level backup folder and delete.

Alternatively, copy your data *from* the external drive to another location temporarily that you wish to save. Format the external drive and finally copy the data back.

And, if you are still having problems, open a support case for help.
