  • Although OneCare is the program telling you that you need to install this critical update, there is apparently a problem with installing it properly on your system. You can contact OneCare support for help or you can review the Windows Update Solutions Center for help.

  • When I go to windows update and check for updates it always finds that I need to install this update "Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181)".

When I install the update and go to "view update history" it shows that the "Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181)" staus is successful. After rebooting if I go back to windows update and ckeck for updates it finds the same update needs to be installed. It still shows successful in the update history, but when I check "Installed Updates" it is not listed.

I have checked the Windows Update Solution Center and cant find anything about this.

  • I had a similar problem, but found it was related to software for my Kodak 5100 printer.  I have had nothing but trouble from the Kodak software.  I was able to install the Kodak software on my HP laptop, but it refuses to install on my Gateway desktop.  If you have any of the Kodak software on your system, I would suggest updating it.  I turned off the auto update to minimize the problem.  I probably have 20 installs of KB936181.  Good luck.

Forgot to add: I believe the Kodak software damaged the MSXML files.  To correct this, uninstall all the MSXML files and then do a Windows update.  This corrected the problem for me.  When I did a repair of the 5100 software the problem started again.  This is why I blame the problem on the Kodak software.

  • I'm having the exact same problem, and as for requesting help from OneCare Good luck..  This is not the only problem I've had with OneCare and as soon as my year runs out I';; be back to Symantec, even through I really do like OneCare and how it works with Windows, there is NO support for it.

The problem would not be with OneCare, but apparently with this update. Try the Windows Update Solution Center - http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527

And, there *is* support for OneCare, although it can be a pain to reach, as I've stated in my FAQ post:
