Xbox 360/WHS add-in, download blogs, rss, xml feeds, audio, video to your xbox 360 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys,

Long time lurker here but finally decided to post here.  Anyway I created a new Windows Home Server add-in.  It allows you to stream internet xml, rss blog feed to your xbox 360 from your whs, it also streams internet audio from podcasts/blogcasts and videos as well.

Text based content (including images) are converted to pictures so they are displayed on the 360, audio and video is supported as well.

Blogs, audio, video are constantly checked (you can change the settings) and checks to see if any new feeds are available over the internet and downloads them.  You can easily add new websites to monitor by simply plugging in the rss, xml blog feed.

Now you can read internet news, hear audio and watch video on your xbox 360.

You guys can download and try the add-in at: http://www.xbstream.com , click on the downloads link and download the XBOX COMMUNITY FEEDS addin.

    Here are a few screenshots:

Here is a screenshot of a text based feed converted from the add-in on WHS to an image on the xbox 360:

I submitted this add-in to the code2fame challenge as well.

  • Very Cool!

Is this a WHS version of the XB Stream program for XP / Vista or are there other benefits?

  • Yes it is indeed based off of my XB Stream software.  Obviously the benefit is WHS is a server and is dedicated to these sorts of processes, a home computer could be used at the same time xb stream was being used and cause cpu/ram/internet usage that the person sitting at the computer would not want to contend with.

I see WHS as the better platform because of the end-user expections of what a server should be used for and a desktop computer should be used for.  Having processes that use ram/cpu power are always better suited for a server; when originally creating xb stream that option was not available with WHS it now is.

I also see the WHS console as a very easy and centralized way to manage a server and it's processes; it puts all server related management in an easy to use interface that anyone can pickup and use immediately.  XBCF's has built in tabs to fully work within the console and easily add and remove new internet xml/rss feeds.

  • Prakash,

Greetings.  Is there anyway to actually capture the mp3 audio podcast or mp4 video podcast to a folder on your WHS with this add-in?  I'd like to be able to log into my WHS remotely and download the podcasts from one single place, rather than having to goto each individual website (ESPN, NBC, etc.).  Please let me know if there is a way. Thanks

    vr

    Mule
