Lifeware LifeStorage..and hardware RAID RRS feed

  • Question

I see that Lifeware announced their Lifestorage WHS product. Was curious in that it uses hardware RAID-5, which I thought was forbidden (for "vision" if not technical reasons).

On the otherhand, since I/O on a WHS server is bottlenecked on the primary HDD (at least for writes), and since the more drives one has, the more time is spent replicating...this sounds like a good way to go.

Are exceptions being made to allow hardware raid based servers to get a WHS logo? Since there is no "technical" reason why this isn't doable....

  • Hi, The LifeStorage unit runs Microsoft  Windows  Storage Server, not WHS. It's specifically written to work in situations like this and can be run as an embedded system with full support for Raid Arrays and 'hot-swop' capabilities..
