Windows Vista product key invalid after virus

Question
-
Hello I've had some major problems recently where I had a Vundo virus variant and had my system attacked. I bellieve the infection has been cleaned, however, Windows Vista now comes up as not genuine/not activated. I've tried entering the key and I get an error that it's already in use. I tried to authorize over the phone with no luck. I've tried some tricks I saw in these forums and also have come up blank, please help!

Hello ajs1974,
The 'Already in use' error is Vista's way of telling you that you need to Activate by phone (I know, the message is not very user friendly or informative...I've been pushing to have it changed).
However, in your situation, you will need to talk to a Live Activation Rep. When you first call, you will get a Automatic Phone Prompt. Either select the option to talk to a Live Activation Rep, or if there is no option, don't type anything and that should force the Phone Prompt to transfer you to the Rep.
Hope that helps,

Thanks for replying Darin, however I did try that and was unsuccessful. The codes the live rep gave me didn't work, and he transferred me to Customer Service who couldn't help either.
I tried activating online, by phone, via rep, all with no dice. I got a message saying activation was unsuccessful each time.Tuesday, September 1, 2009 8:33 PM -
Hi ajs1974,
Unfortunatly, as far as Product Activation is concerned, my goal is to get the Activation process to start (either over the internet or by phone) after that, it's out of my area of knowledge. I recommend Activating by Phone again and follow that process. Your Product Key does appear to be Genuine (although I can't be sure since you covered up more of the number then nessacary and I can't get a clean match in my tool) so once you get to Customer Service, they need to get you to a Activation Support person to get Vista to accept it.
The only other suggestion I can make is that your Vista may be damaged in such a way that the Activation Proccess is not working correctly, if it can't be repaired, you may need to reinstall Vista. I don't like offering that option, but I have no others to give.
Sorry I couldn't be more help,
