Sharepoint 2013 Choice Filter Web Part

When I try to configure the Choice Filter Web Part, the Connection box is empty....there appears to be no way to configure a connection to the web parts on the page. Is there anything I can do about this or is this a problem for central Sharepoint admin? 'This filter is not connected' remains on the filter web part.
