Windows Live OneCare for Server - Error ID: 0014-800072efd

Question
-
I'm getting the following error during Windows Live OneCare for Server update ("Upgrade" button) on Small Business Server 2008 RC0:
"Network problems are preventing windows live onecare installation from continuing at this time. Please check your network connection and then click try again. if the problem still occurs, click get help."
Error ID: 0014-80072EFD.
I have disabled windows firewall with no success. I have checked my LAN settings. Internet works for everything else. Added *.onecare.live.com and *.msn.com to Trusted Sites, disabled "Automatically Detect Settings" in Internet Explorer, and I have no other antivirus or firewall installed other than OneCare for Server (trial) and Forefront Security for Exchange (trial).
This is on a fresh install of Windows SBS 2008 server with no third party installations of any kind (other than sharepoint). Please advise.

Tony,
As noted above, I know that OneCare for server will not install on a 32 bit system (I'm the one who made that post). I have a current machine that's running SBS2008 with OneCare and it's working fine. With the RC of SBS2008 it comes with OneCare, however it comes with a version that is no longer supported. The way I fixed this was to download the OneCare cleanup utility and run it on the server. Once the cleanup has finished install the new version of OneCare for server. This solved the problem on my server. The error that you mention appears to be a "blanket error code" as I've seen it applied to a number of different errors caused by anything but communication. If you enable logging on your firewall you'll see that it's not blocking OneCare. Communication is not the issue.
As far as OneCare running with Forefront, you are right on that it works. The Forefront license for SBS2008 is Forefront security for Exchange Server. OneCare is in charge of everything other than email.
Good Luck and let me know what you come up with.

I just read another post where it was noted that you'll get the 0014 error on a server install of OneCare if you try to install on an x86 machine as opposed to a 64 bit machine, which is a requirement of OneCare for Server. However, since you are encountering this on an upgrade (which I am unfamiliar with on SBS, never having seen the button you refer to) I think it might indeed be a problem in communicating.
Your best bet may be to contact support - via email -

I guess a few other observations - why are you running Forefront *and* OneCare for Server? Can they co-exist on the same box? I don't think they should both be running on the same box. If this is a fresh install, how can you have an upgrade link and how can OneCare already be installed? Does it install out of the box with SBS 2008?

Yes, the server is x64 - a requirement of SBS 2008. SBS 2008 is a clean install, not an upgrade. Both products (OneCare for Server and Forefront) install with the SBS 2008 install. The OneCare protects the server itself, while Forefront protects the Exchange server. I did not add these separately, both were included with SBS 2008.
OneCare was installed as part of the SBS 2008 install. There is a red circle with a "1" in the system tray. When I move the mouse over it, it says "status-at risk". When I double-click the icon, OneCare opens to a screen that shows status. On this screen, in red, it says "Virus and Spyware Definitions - Not current" and below that it says "Full OneCare Functionality - Upgrade Needed". In this same screen there are two buttons, one says "Upgrade" the other says "Cancel". When I click on "Upgrade" is says "Windows Live OneCare will guide you through the installation process. Checking for updates..." then after several seconds (10-20 sec) I get the error "Installation cannot continue. Network problems are preventing Windows Live OneCare installation from continuing at this time. Please check your network connection and click try again. Error ID: 0014-80072EFD". There is a "Try Again" button, a "Get Help" button (not very helpful though) and a "Close" button.
Also, I have no problem connecting to the Internet with this computer, also no problem downloading and installing Windows Updates - all updates are current. I am BAFFLED about this, since I followed all suggestions on the OneCare website to try to remedy the problem, to no avail. Any other ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank-you.

Ah, okay. I have a better picture of how Forefront and OneCare co-exist on the box. Basically, they have specific functionality.
Yes, it sounds like the OneCare version is the beta, which points to a disabled back end environment, hence the 0014 error. Removing OneCare and installing from http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/server/default.htm should resolve it.
If you can't remove the beta copy of OneCare normally through Control Panel, then give the cleanup tool a shot as Michael did:

One of these days I thin I need to get a box that will support running SBS 2008, so I can see how all of this actually works. I've used Windows Server 2008, but only 32 bit, and never SBS of any flavor.

I uninstalled the version of Windows Live OneCare for Server that installed as part of SBS 2008 setup, ran the OneCare cleanup tool, and downloaded and installed the latest version. Seems to be working now. Thank you all for your help and suggestions.
