Hope someone here can help me.
I have an XP Home laptop client which was setup with a single user as an administrator with no password.
Then some years later I purchased a Vista Ultimate laptop client which was setup with a single user as an administrator with no password.
More recently I have purchased a WHS and configured it to run backups of the Vista client which went smoothly and the Vista client now asks for a logon and the passwords and accounts match those in the WHS.
But...
The XP Home client has the same user (me) as the Vista client and so WHS gets confused and tells me the passwords don't match on the XP Home client. I understand that XP Home does not support the changing of the name of the main system user? So how do I correct this?
1. I don't want to change the system user name in the Vista client.
2. If I need to create a new user on the XP Home client how do I ensure that all the settings migrate across from the old user ID? I tried the 'Copy to' option from the Advanced Tab, Users, under My Computer properties, but other than the true administrator account the 'Copy to' option greys out.
3. I don't want the same password to be used on both clients.
My main fear is that in creating a new administrator account on the XP Client and then deleting my old account is ensuring that all the settings, applications, wallpapers, cookies etc. etc. get carried over to the new account.
I've also tried the keymanager fix which didn't work. I deleted the computer and user from the WHS and reinstalled the connector software on the XP Home client and that didn't work. Basically I've tried everything in this post:-
http://mswhs.com/2007/10/19/stop-false-password-nags-from-the-whs-client/I still get the nags and my last remaining hunch is that it has to do with both clients having the same system user name.
Any ideas? Pleeeease ;-)
Cheers
Hyde.
