Genuine License and office product change RRS feed

  • Question

  • Like many others...I installed a purchased copy from a non-Microsoft vendor. It activated as genuine when first installed in 08-09. After installing office updates on 9-22-09, I began receiving the counterfeit warnings. I noticed the Office updates show Office Professional PLUS 2007. My purchase and product key is for Office Professional 2007, not PLUS. So I do understand the counterfeit warning is referring to the PLUS software which I never purchased or installed. Additionally, the Office program installed is showing Office Professional PLUS installed on the same date as I ran the updates 9-22-09 with no reference to any other office installations.  I installed my purchased version of Office Professional 2007 in August 2009.

    I paid a pretty penny for the Office Professional 2007 software which came completely sealed with the product key, cd's and a book inside as if purchased from a legit store. Additionally the vendor has an excellent reputation.  Also I want to mention that Office 2007 for students was preinstalled on this computer from Dell. I also downloaded a trial 2007 Office version from Microsoft prior to purchasing and installed the current product. I am very suspicious of the changed software on the same date of the office windows update on 9-22-09.  I really do not believe this is a counterfeit product but an issue with Microsoft updates.  I've ran the diagnostic tool which is listed below:

  • Hello karrie sims,

    Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 108 Invalid VLK
    Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 - 108 Invalid VLK

    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0

    Office Diagnostics: B4D0AA8B-604-645_B4D0AA8B-604-645_025D1FF3-364-80041010_025D1FF3-229-80041010_025D1FF3-230-1_025D1FF3-517-80040154_025D1FF3-237-80040154_025D1FF3-238-2_025D1FF3-244-80070002_025D1FF3-258-3

    Right now your computer has a Volume Licensing installation of Office 2007 Professional Plus, and that installation was done with an Invalid Volume Licensing Key (VLK).  An Invalid product key means that the key was made with a pirating program known as a Key Generator and was never issued by Microsoft.

    Office 2007 Pro Plus is a Volume Licensing only edition of Office 2007, should never be sold as a consumer product, and is quite often marketed by software pirates as the consumer license for Office 2007 Professional.

    I would encourage you to contact the seller of this software to demand that you receive the full retail license for Office 2007 Professional that you paid for, or a full refund.  Quite often, sellers of these bogus copies of Office Professional Plus 2007 will try to placate you by promising to send you a replacement product key and tell you that if you download Office directly from Microsoft and use the key that they send you, the product will then Validate normally.  Please do not fall for this ploy.

    You can also view the Office Genuine Offer FAQ to see if you qualify for the discounted or complimentary replacement of your nongenuine Office: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC

    One other possibility is that at one time your computer did have a Genuine installation of Office installed, but for some reason it was replaced with the current installation which is nongenuine.  This could have happened if you took your computer to a repair shop and they reinstalled Windows and/or some or all of your programs.  You Get Genuine once again by uninstalling the current nongenuine installation of Office and using your Genuine Microsoft hologrammed Office installation CDs, along with the genuine Product Key found on your Office Edition's Certificate of Authenticity, to put back the genuine installation of Office you may have already had on the computer.

    I understand that your computer had an Office Trial installed when you received it from Dell, and you also downloaded and installed another Office Trial from the Microsoft website.  If either or both of these installations were still on the computer, they would be listed in the "OGA Data--->" section of the report as well as in the "Other data-->" section; but these sections show only the nongenuine Pro Plus installation.
