MS Office 2007 Professional "Genuine Problem"

  The mgadiag report is showing that the installation of Vista Business on your Toshiba satellite computer is a Genuine retail-licensed installation.
  
  But, you have a problem with the installed Office.
  
  Here is a snippet from your mgadiag report:

  Your installation of Office is not a retail license for Office 2007 Professional, which is what trustworthy software retailers should have sold you.
  
  It is a pirated copy of Office 2007 Enterprise, which is a Volume Licensing-only product not licensed for sale to individual consumers.  A Blocked VLK means that the business, educational, or government organization that was the original purchaser of this product suffered a loss of control over the product key, so in cooperation with Microsoft, to control the pirating of this product they Blocked the key from further use.
  
  Please return the product to the sellers and demand the Genuine product you paid for, or a full refund of your purchase price.

  Ok, I understand your point, however isn't this a case similar with the XP OEM Cds? After a couple of formats, you had to call Microsoft as if you were a pirate and explained the situation and then they would activate your copy.
  
  To install and uninstall such softaware buddles it's not so wise. I prefer to call Microsoft and purchase a licence key rather than uninstalling it. It is Microsoft's mistake that led to this. MY COPY IT IS NOT PRODUCT OF PIRACY. I aggree with you that it could be the property of an organisation and an insider sold it to the people i got it from. But, this is not my problem. MICROSOFT should have controled distribution, but they have not done so, because they want to have access to every PC. For example, if they controlled distribution, the price it would be high leading many individuals to less expensive software or open source. In this case Microsoft could be hurt a lot. So please Microsoft people do not blame the others for the situation you created.
  
  Dear Dan, I am sorry if this reply seems to be addressed to you. It is not, just your answer gave me the opportunity to say all this for Microsoft, because I am, till now, a loyal customer and they treat me as a pirate while they are the ones who have committed "piracy" by installing in people's PCs software they never, ever wanted or asked.
  
  I would be with them, if they banned my copy from the very beginning and not after one month!

  This is completely different.
  
  You example is one of attemtping to install a product meant for one computer (an OEM license) several times within a short period of time.  The activation servers are programmed to allow some fudge-factor.  But when exceeded the message you would receive is "This copy of Windows has been installed too many times" or similar.
  
  If you had purchased an OEM copy of Office, and installed it on say five or ten computers (or five or ten times on the same computer) over the course of a couple of days, you would run into the same situation as you mentioned for Windows. 
  
  The issue with your installation of Office is that it is a copy licensed to be installed on many computers, a Volume License.  These licenses are not to be sold to individuals because they are not the perpetual licenses that consumers expect, in other words, they are not permanently licensed.  Some varieties of volume licenses can be almost like a lease, where the company rents the software for a certain time and then when the lease is up, the key is blocked.  Other times the keys are blocked because the company lost control of the key and instead of the paid-for number of installations there are now 10 and 100 times as many because the product key got out on the internet.
  
  One way you can tell how rampant the pirating is, is by using a keyfinder utility to extract the product key and then just do an internet search for that key.  My guess is that you'll see at least 10 pages of hits for the key.
  
  Now let's talk about blame.  You seem to be mad at Microsoft for them "letting" this happen.  I can assure you that Microsoft management is almost as mad as you are over software piracy like this.  Remember, in your scenario, Microsoft did not collect one cent from your software purchase, because the people you bought this software from never bought it from Microsoft, they pirated it.  And if we give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they did not know they were selling pirated software, then their crime is not one of piracy but incompetence and maybe outright stupidity.  You should direct your anger at the people who sold you the pirated software.
  
  Finally, as a consumer no one is going to look out for you like you.  A full retail copy of Office Pro 2007 goes for about US$500, maybe US$450 if on sale.  If some individual was trying to sell you a $500 item at a price that is one-half or one-third of the normal price, you have to start thinking about whether it's too good to be true.
  
  From my understanding of your circumstances, you probably do not qualify for the discounted or complimentary replacement for counterfeit Office products, but please read the FAQ to be sure, and if there is any doubt, I would go ahead and request it anyway:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC

    OK, if that is true, then if someone inside a company steals the company's Ford Truck and sells it to you, It's not your problem, it's the fault of Ford for not controling distribution? right?

       Thank you for your answer. I contacted the guys I bought the copy and they committed to resolve the issue. I told you from the very beginning that they are serious. Apparently, the situation must be as i described below. An insider of the VLK assigned organisation probably sold it to them. So far nothing wrong with me. As an economist 1 person and a small company tried to make money that otherwise would have been more difficult. As long as they resolve my issue as a consumer, then I am ok.
  
  Now let me tell you about Microsoft's policy and how mad they are about this kind of "Piracy". THEY ARE NOT. They know it and they want it to happen. Imagine the number of the small enterprises that they could not acquire a suite like MS Office. What would they do? They would simply use Open source software or cheaper ones. This would lead consumers to flow to this kind of products, then those products would attract more attention, and more innovation would have been taken place into them. Microsoft would lose market share resulting a huge price drop in their products resulting profit reduction and much more.................... Check what happened with the online Office suites....................................Now you understand that by allowing the above sort of Piracy it does not result many cents into Microsoft's pockets, but it does not create flow towards its rival firms too. Trust me by treating consumers like pirates it wont serve them for long!
  
  If they treat me as a pirate that I bought a Legitimate copy of their software 20% less the retail price (Please note that in Europe the MS Office Professional costs 550 EUROS = 792 USD) how should I treat them, that after I installed my Windows I found there without my Will IE, WMD? If in the US the price of MS Office was the same as in Europe, I wonder what would happen! I appreciate what they have offered so far, but by no means they have the right to harm the final consumer. They try to turn the final consumer against the small software firms. Believe me, it wont be this way.

        Are you kidding or what? A VLK volume is not distributed like that from companies like MS. They do it because they want to make their product popular. They know the risk. Didn't you see what happened with VISTA? They did a premature launch and you see the results! They could not overtake XP. People think that XP are better than VISTA. We all know that this is by far false. To say that XP is better than Vista is as if you say that Ford fiesta is better than 911 Porsche Carrera.
  
  Finally, in my case the guy did not steal his truck from Ford. Ford had given him a truck to use it with full rights when he was an employee. By having the full rights he sells it to another company. The sale is legitimate (full rights). Then the other company sells it to me. Can you tell me where is my fault? Why they want to chase me and not the managers of Ford who did not control the give away of the trucks?
  
  In other words, from now on the final consumer must be very careful when he buys MS products, because he might get in trouble, according to your argument. This is due to the fact, according to your argument, that if Ford is not liable all the rest are!
