Ran Windows Repair on XP Home and now cannot install Windows Updates

Question

System was not booting. It would go to starting XP, then reboot without actually making it into Windows.
Ran XP repair from XP Home install CD.
System now boots and all looks good, but when it comes time to run Windows Updates, it will download all 88 updates, but fail to install them.
I ran the Windows Validation Diagnostic and passed. Both Windows and Office come up valid.
