I know an answer... for maplestory global issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear users:

The only answer for this topic at the momment, since there is not a patch for the game is to dual boot your computers. Ask the microsoft tech to tell you more, go to www.lifehacker.com or look it up online for instructions (dual booting XP or Linux to Vista). Dual boot either Linux or Microsoft XP, but you will need a full unupgraded version of XP or ubuntu in Linux's case. This is the only way I have been able to play without the notice or any problems in that case. Until a patch doesn't come up this information will have to do. There are no risks in dual booting your computer and it will let you run both systems in harmony without one interferring with the other, but this process takes a few minutes.

                                                                                                                                                 Sincerely,

                                                                                                                                                 Master_Hacker

  • So tell me what file system would you use for both XP/Vista and Linux on the one HD?

Anyways here is my reasons why it wouldnt be a good idea.

    1. Multiple uses of both Linux and XP will eventually fragment the HD so badly that performance will seriously suffer. Installing/Uninstalling/Downloading/Deleting on both OS's over a period of time will cause this to escalate.

    2. Its been said on various sources that AV's for both Linux and XP/Vista sometimes fight on files needed for both, and if someone has things on automatic cleaning etc, you can imagine what a problem that would be.

Also you say show you proof that it isnt recommended, can you show me proof that it is?

  • You will also need a 2nd HD, or 2nd Partition to 1 HD.

Dual booting from 1 HD is not only silly, but will cause problems with installed programs (i.e. XP uses Program Files and Vista also, Vista 64 uses Program Files for 64 bit software installs)

Not to mention other problems with other files and folders.

  • Yeah, I forgot to say... I do not recommend for people who do not know what they are doing or "saying"... happy? Dual booting has no issues, you can ask any of the microsoft representatives. I have been a year and a half with a dual booted computer and nothing. You only need a partition for a second microsoft, I am using Ubuntu to get my Linux.

  • Well for one if you fully read what I said, you will see I didnt say you were silly, I said putting 2 MS OS's one one partition is silly. So the sarcastic reply was not needed.

I was adding more info to what you said, before someone did put 2 MS OS's on one partition.

Although you can put both Linux and XP/Vista on one partition, it is still not recomended, but it can be done.

  • Well show me one place where it says that it's not recommended, and also bring me a microsoft representative to support that comment, then and only then you have an arguement against what I said. And sarcasism is a quality used when necessary. Until now this is the only solution for the Issue, unless you have something?

  • 1. If you have to use your disinstalling programs more than once every 7months you don't know what you have on you computer or know what your doing. Linux doesn't fragment anything, and Xp can't fragment if you have it in another partition.

    2. Go to http://lifehacker.com/software/dual-boot/dual-boot-windows-xp-on-a-pre+installed-vista-pc-248936.php and http://lifehacker.com/software/ubuntu/install-and-run-ubuntu-without-disturbing-windows-228956.php which is a site which I supervise and administer the forums.

    3. If that isn't proof enough, I'll leave these forums.
