Question

I thought I had done windows update just fine before and that WGA was installed. what happened?
this is my mother's laptop. we had to replace the hard drive (5 years old) and replace the wireless card (it died) and reinstall the OS. when I was working with an mp3 player, and installing Windows Media Player, it said that I wasn't running genuine Windows for some reason. I don't think I ever got the chance to activate, and I don't know how to if I didn't. there are no "activate" icons. is there an EXE I need to run with parameters from the cmd shell?
this is a compaq presario v2030us.

Hello Jim Michaels,
The report is telling us that this is an OEM SLP installation of XP Home on a Compaq Presario V2000 computer, using the Compaq OEM SLP product key, which is just as it should be.
The report is also showing that no WGA or OGA files have been installed.
What happens when you click Start>Run, then enter this into the Run command and click OK?
oobe/msoobe.exe /a

it worked. and windows is validated.
I don't know why, but I can't see my cursor here. frustrating, and it's a new installation of windows. somebody fix this web site. but that hasn't stopped me much before.
something odd about the windows media player 11 installation (which was the original program to mess up during installation) -you know how the program puts in all those sample media files? well, those aren't there. I wonder what's going on.
ahh, now I have my cursor back. flaky program after clicking EDIT.
