  • Question

  • For the past three days, 60% of the time that I have tried to access a forum or click on a forum link, I get the never ending blue "processing" circle on the tab title but no forum page. Is anyone else seeing this? It has been utterly frustrating trying to reply to posts when I cannot get on the forums. Any suggestions?

  • I haven't seen reports on this. Any particular forums you're seeing the issue?

  • Pretty much any of these forums I have tried including any of the VB, WinForms, or C# forums. Also the "My Forums Thread" link. And often when I *do* get in, the reply editor I get seems old. It has no menu bar and strips all of my CRLF from my messages leaving one big nasty paragraph.

(This is what my current URL looks like, don't know if that helps: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/reportabug/thread/7b8fb835-85d8-4374-9be5-9ac4133e0eac/1fc4258b-6071-4051-bf64-5a7d571de467/reply)

A few times when I get in, it ends up looking like this (Just odd bits of text):

This is valid URL. You only get this instance if you reply to a post while the thread page is still loading including js scripts.

We have an update (release) today in which our Front servers will be re-flushed. This may help.  It may or may not fix your particular issue because to me it seems that you're having slow page load times.

If you use tools such as fiddler or http watch, you can look at which resources that takes a long time to load then we can investigate on that.

  • Yes, that seems to be the case where the rotating circle is still rotating (meaning I assume that the page is still loading) but since this sometimes *stays* rotating, I have been replying anyway. So I assume it is seeing that the page is not done loading and giving me the less featured reply editor.

I will keep an eye out for what seems to be holding it up. I don't have fiddler, but I have been wanting to install it. Maybe this is a good excuse!

    Thanks for looking into this!

  • It just takes a really long time for your machine to retrieve the HTML of the page.  The forum servers have had reasons to be blamed before, the current set is showing signs of aging.  But right now, talk to your ISP first.

  • About a month ago we paid the big bucks for Comcast high speed internet. So it better not be them! :-)

Thing is, I have *NO* trouble with any other sites.

But I am having significant trouble both with these forums *AND* with the MSDN forums. They churn "forever" and often come up with just garbage text or don't come up at all.

I don't seem to be having this problem this morning. If I see it start happening again, I'll spend some time to see if the problem is me, Comcast, or something else.

    Thanks for replying!

  • This is now happening again. On the main forums page, the system seems to be waiting on this: "Waiting for http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/categories/..." On the actual forum pages, I never get the drop-down arrows to view the post details.

  • After literally a 1/2 hour, I finally was able to get in here to post that I cannot get in here. What's up? I cannot get into any of the forums or msdn. I tried both IE and FireFox, same problem. I've tried several other sites with no problem. Is it me? Or is it a problem with MS servers? If the later, any idea when it might be fixed? Thanks!
