Can I deactivate My Windows Vista Installation on a device that no longer functions RRS feed

    I have Already installed my copy of Windows Vista Home Basic On My Compaq Laptop  and a power issue fried the motherboard on the laptop and I now wish to install vista on another working computer which I have Done but now need to activate it, The only problem is ... the key has already been used on my Broken laptop is it possible for me to deactivate the key on my laptop and use it on my current computer?   I have 19 days from Jan 13 2008 to activate my copy

  • Assuming your copy of Windows Vista is a retail version and not an OEM version:

     

    You can reset your Windows Vista activation by performing the following:

     

    1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in:  slui.exe 4

     

    2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

     

    3. Select your Country.

     

    4. Follow the instructions for phone activation.

     

    5.  Once completed, restart your computer.
