off topic - Question re costs involved RRS feed

  • General discussion

Hi.  I am not sure if I have the right system in mind, but am told that Windows Live provides an instant messaging systems where you can chat in real time, via text, to someone far away.  When I went to download the software at

http://get.live.com/messenger/config it said that charges may apply.  I am unsure if that means I would be charged.  I live on the west coast of Canada and want to chat, via text, in real time, to some friends in Australia.  I have contacted my internet provider and they said they won't charge me, but are unsure if your firm will.  Can you please clarify two things:

    1)  Is this the correct service for what I want?

    2)  If so, will it cost me any money at all?
