Thinking of upgrading memory to 2GB on EX475 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Has anyone who has done this seen any major improvements?

Did you increase the paging partition on the WHS?

  • Here is another "how to" article, complete with step-by-step photos. I replaced the RAM in my EX470 with a 2GB stick and it's working great! I used a Patriot 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) that I bought from NewEgg.

  • I think a performance increase depends on what you are doing with the server.  In our case, we took an HP MediaSmart, added all kinds of software on it including Home Automation via X10 (usb to serial adapter) and we also installed a mail Server, FTP Server,  SQL Server, Wordpress, TZO Photo Software and I'm sure there is something I forgot.    We wrote the tutorial above simply because of what we wanted to do with our server.

We run the website http://www.MyHomeServer.com   on a MediaSmart server on a cable modem.  It's a true home server - and with all the apps, it needs the RAM in a bad way.  The 2GB stick we added helped in a big way

Working great ?  My 475 works great with 512mb - a little slow though.

Is there a noticable performance increase?

    Thanks

  • I did it on my EX470 pretty quickly after purchase (Jan 08).  I think it improved performance quite a bit. My server always has / had  700 MB or more allocated. It was forever paging with only 500 MB of real. Now it runs smooth out of real memory.

HP does advertise that it will "Void Waranty" though if there is a problem.  Be careful and use good quality components. I used Crucial.
