How can we add data into subgrid and piclist data using OOB workflow? (CRM 2011) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Need to copy the record from one enitity into other entity and in related  entity by workflow but how can we add data into subgrid in workflow and even picklist value.

for subgrid I have created a related record step but still the data is not saving into the subgrid(related entity).

Please let me know the process to do that.

  • As i understand entity C has 1:N relation with A which means one C can have many A. If you are writing a workflow to capture status change event of C, how woukd the workflow know out of the many A records that could be associated C which one should be picked...

Even if you succeed in creating D from A, you will not be able to create E from B for the same reason as above.

You can create a custom workflow assembly that would copy the details and create the same relations and records for D and E

  • If you are talking of getting the records displayed in sub-grid i believe you are referring to copying the records of 1:N relationship. Through a workflow you cannot copy data of an existing related entity record to create a new record.

If on the other hand if you are only creating a new related record make sure you set the lookup field value on the related record to the current record.

Does this help in any way?

  • Thanks Sam. Then how can we come out with below mentioned scenarion.

Entit A is having 1:N relationship with B(this is added as subgrid into A)

Now based on status changed in Entity C (which is having 1:N relationship with Entity A) system needs to copy the record from Entity A to Entity D and from Entity B to Entity E.

Entit D is having 1:N relationship with E(this is added as subgrid into D)
