Help! Genuine Advantage doesn’t recognize my Office XP Activation. RRS feed

  • Question

  •

Can anyone help me validate my Office XP?  MS Office Genuine Advantage fails, reporting, “The validation process could not be completed because a copy of Microsoft Office® on this computer has not been activated.” However, all my Office programs report, “This product has already been activated.” I have no problem validating my OS.

The MS Office COA has Dell logo on it and was delivered with the computer.

The title is Microsoft(r) Office XP Pro w/ Publisher 2002

I ran the MGA Diagnostic tool and got the following results:

  • Hello Mr. G

Thank you for posting your Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool information. We are sorry to hear about the situation your currently experiencing. Diagnostic results help our team in determining the root cause of your issue.

The Microsoft Office XP Professional Product Key installed on this computer was not assigned by Microsoft. The Product Key is counterfeit and was most likely generated by a Product Key generator. The Product Key found on your computer has been detected on multiple computers. Product Keys are only allowed to be used on one computer unless otherwise specified in the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA).   You will find numerous sites where this Product Key has been posted.  Use your favorite search engine and paste in the Product Key.  Below could be a possible scenario.

There are situations which can cause Microsoft Office to become non-genuine. Let me give one example.  Customers have taken in their systems for service along with all the software received when purchasing their system. The customer picks up the system and viola' no problems whatsoever until they need to download an update or even a template used with an Office Suite. Suddenly their system is non-genuine. The customer's computer was not installed with their software but either a blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) or a Keygen’d Product Key. Also the software could work for several weeks, months, or even a year or more then suddenly become blocked.

Under NO circumstances should someone try to download/distribute ISO images for software from a P2P file sharing site or use a second-hand burned copies of software. Research has shown that about half of the software copies available on P2P download sites are infected with root kits, spyware, Trojans, and other potentially harmful malware. One file in particular was very alarming.  This file was an administrator account giving the attacker full control over both your system and data.  I would be very concerned about your system integrity because Windows is non-genuine.

You will need to uninstall Microsoft Office XP Professional before any further complications occur from being non-genuine. As a customer there are several options available for you to get Genuine. For details on the ways to “Get Genuine”, see the web page that outlined your validation failure details. The link below provide all of the possible steps which you can take.

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine

Please review the Validation Advisor for further guidance at:

    https://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/ValidationHelp.aspx

If this comes as a total surprise to you, please visit the retailer where you purchased Microsoft Office and let them know the Office software is a counterfeit copy.  Request they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy.

Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is here to help protect YOU, our valued customer. It is important for more people like you, who have become victims, to report piracy at the following link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.mspx

Microsoft legal will follow up on all leads provided.  Submitting piracy reports will assist in stopping unscrupulous business practices.  You may be eligible for free software if you have high quality counterfeit discs.

Again, we are sorry to hear about your situation. Please be sure to backup or otherwise off-load any data from the hard disk because a clean installation/reimaging will destroy all personal user data on the hard drive.

Thank you for visiting the OGA program forum.

  • Mr. G,

Thank you for visiting the Office Genuine Advantage forums. I'm not saying you did this exactly as I am about to lay out this scenario, but go with me on this. I hope it answers your question. If your hdd was swapped out, and you had no problem activating your OS, then excellent. Now the issue is with Office which is  a separate issue. You cannot clone Office on the replaced HDD. You need to uninstall it off of there, and reinstall it off the Office Media. Then when you go to activate on the new Hard Drive (HDD), then you need to telephone activate if there is a problem. Here are the steps.

    Telephone Activation:

    Start any Office program.

In the Office activation wizard, click Activate by using the telephone option, and then click Next.

Read the Microsoft Office Privacy Policy page, and then click Next.

Note: You are not required to read the Microsoft Office Privacy Policy page to continue these steps in Microsoft Office 2007. A link to the Microsoft Office Privacy Policy is provided so that you can read it at any time.

In the Select your location list, select a country or region. Call the telephone number that is listed on line 2. The customer service agent will ask you for the installation ID and will give you a confirmation ID in return. Type the confirmation ID in the boxes provided.

    Then click Next.

On the Activation Complete page, click Finish.

  • Thank you, Stephen.

    I am a bit confused.

I starred out the Product keys in the above MGADT information. How do you know what the product key is? (Or did you catch it before I starred them out?)

I used a third party tool to extract the Office XP product keys, and found that
    A) They do not match the MGADT information.
    B) They do match my COA sticker on the media.
    C) They do not return any hits when I do an internet search.

    Regards,
    Mr. G.

  • Mr. G,

We have tools which help use read the MGA Diagnostics results. We encourage you to submit a piracy report which will not only help you but countless others in similar situations. Also you can contact whomever you purchased XP from and request them to supply you with a genuine version or to refund your monies. Curious where did you purchase Office from?

    Take care Mr. G

  • Both the OS and Office were delivered preinstalled with my computer, purchased new from DELL.

I have not reinstalled from the media since I got the system...BUT
    (Update to post)

I just remembered, I installed a new hard drive about a year ago and clicked the option to clone my original drive. The cloning operation must not preserve the keys.

Can you verify that this would cause the issue?

Should I initiate a complaint against the disk manufacturer?

What options do I have to solve this issue? The old hard drive is now in a drawer.

    Regards,
    Mr. G.

    p.s. -

I have Keys printed on the COA labels that are good (at least they don't show up in any internet searches).

Can I just update by removing the registry entries and forcing a prompt to enter the "good" keys?
