synctoy and thumbnails

  I have a problem when I open a directory of large images whereby the system works for several minutes generating thumbnails. I have a very fast RAID system and system resources tells me that the disc i/o is on the order of 250-750MB/s. I have let the system create the thumbnails but if I come back later I have to go through the whole process again. The only thing I can think of is whether Synctoy changes a bit on the file and the system thinks they are new modified files. I am using Windows 7 64 bit.
