Importing Default Solution - Failure no Errors RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are trying to import the default solution from a 2011 environment to another 2011 environment. The target environment was a crm version 4 backkup/restore/upgrade.

We are getting about 80% of the way there in importing the default solution but it then fails with no error message to go by. In each case the top 'unprocessed' item has been the site map.  We have imported the site map again from our source control to the target and that works but importing the default solution again which should have the same site map as source control still fails.

    Any ideas would be appreciated

  • Looking at the event viewer it appears the site map we have references some entities that do not exist in the target as of yet but will if the default solution did import. There are new entities in our 2011 environment that did not exist in v4 .

  • Hi

    Try with long route.

    Backup CRM 4 db.

Restore it on CRM 2011 db.

Then import organization in CRM 2011 deployment manager using Import organization feature and targeting restored db.

Now, when import is done successfully, import your customizations.

    That should work

Meanwhile, what are the entities that are extra ? Is that something custom or new CRM entities like Goals, etc

  • Thanks

We backed up the v4 DB and restored it to the 2011 server. We then performed the org import against that DB to create a 2011 organization

We have development going on for 2011 which includes new custom entities. These new entities do not exist yet on the restored /upgraded organization but would if the import did not fail.

I have tried editing the site map xml to remove references of those new entities . However the import of the defaul solution still fails. Event viewer doesn't mention an error on those entities regarding the site map however so I'm at a loss as to what the issue is.

  • Hi

Did you try to import a solution containing components which are missing in CRM 2013 (as unmanaged).

If that goes fine, then you can again try to import complete default solution.

  • Not sure what is going on as the log shows no error. No longer get the site map errors but I think they were a red-herring anyway . Event viewer shows nothing and tracing on merely shows a failure with no understandable reasoning to go on.
