Hello Drszmn,
Currently you have a Volume Licensing of Windows XP Professional installed. As a rule, VL editions of Windows XP Professional should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VL editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP is Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer. Please ask your systems administrator to logon to the eOpen site (https://eopen.microsoft.com/EN/default.asp) and confirm what your company’s assigned VLK. Sometimes how customers find themselves in this situation is that when their IT department was creating their VL image to be deployed to their desktops, they sometimes inadvertently use an incorrect product key because it was handy.
Please tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for your copy of Windows XP. The computer should have a Dell COA sticker located on the computer.
1. What edition/version of Windows XP is titled?
· Home
· Professional
· Media Center
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. Please provide the customer scenario you are experiencing.
5. DO NOT post the Product Key.
Not sure what to look for, see this page to reference your COA:
NOTE: The data collected with the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you. The information can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.
Your best option @ this point is to contact Dell and request them to send you the Recovery Media Disc for the particular model as well as what version of Windows pairs up to your COA. Please reference Dell contact information below. Keep in mind information changes and we are not responsible for maintaining updated information for the various manufacturers.
