MapPoint Integration into a custom software RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to write a custom code in vbscript that I can embed in my third party application where an address can be grabbed and converted to a jpeg image for embedding.  For example the script will send 123 Main street to MapPoint and MapPoint will return a jpeg with the address at the center of it.If yes, where can I see some examples?

    Thank You.

  • it is a bit more involved. You could geocode the location, center the map on it, perhaps add a pushpin.

Then use the "Save to Web Page" functionality. This will give you a HTML file and a sub-directory. Inside the sub-directory will be a GIF image.

You would then need to convert the GIF to a JPG, but I would strongly recommend you don't do this if you have the choice. JPG is a lossy format - great for photos, but a poor choice for line drawings (eg. maps). So always use GIF or PNG for maps. GIF is an older color-limited formated, but MapPoint maps do not use enough colors to make this a problem.
