Preventing applications from being installed and run RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am a student and I was given the assignment of finding the appropriate answers to the following questions by any means that I can.  I have looked at many sites and forums but I am unable to find the answers that I am seeking.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Question:

Employees freely install applications on their computers; some of these applications are rouge and introduce malware to the computer/network while others end up bringing the computer to a crawl.  Many of these applications do not require administrator rights to install.  What could you do to prevent these applications from being downloaded/installed/run? You’ve also got a separate problem with rouge computers being attached to your network (i.e. computers belonging to vendors/visitors).  How do you allow them to do their work but not allow them on the network?  If you do want their computer on the network how do you ensure it is safe before allowing it on?
