An error occurs during the installation of HPC Pack 2008 R2 with SP3 to the Head Node

    Question

  • Hi,

When I try to install HPC Pack 2008 R2 SP3 with the following choices to the Head Node, I get an error (see the link http://1drv.ms/PQOB4R), and the installation stops. It says "Error -2147217900: failes to execute SQL string, error detail: Column name 'GUID' does not exist in the target table or view., SQL key: BuildStoreDBSchema SQL string: CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX IDX_NodeName_Guid on NodeName(GUID)".

Also you can find setup log file on the site http://1drv.ms/1kK5RSK  and  hpcMsi log file on the site http://1drv.ms/1kK68oM.

Do you have an idea to solve this problem?

    Choices:
Installation Edition: HPC Pack 2008 R2 Enterprise and HPC Pack 2008R2 for Cycle Harvesting
Installation Type: Create a new HPC cluster by creating a head node.

PS:The Head Node's operating system is Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition.

  • Is the setup user db's sysadmin?

  • Hi Yizhong,

I change my setup user's Server Roles as you said.

You can see its Roles on the site http://1drv.ms/1n6M9lO.

But, the same error still happening.

By the way, I don't understand what you exactly mean.

    Thank you for your interest.

  • Looks you are using FEFLAB1\administrator to install HPC pack. Per your screenshot, this user is sysadmin in sql server now.

I am not able to open setup log file http://1drv.ms/1kK68oM. Could you share it again? Do you install HPC 2008 R2 SP3 from fresh environment or upgrade from HPC 2008 R2 SP2?

I would suggest you to use newer versions like HPC 2008 R2 SP4 or HPC 2012 R2.

  • You can also download setup log file on the site http://turbobit.net/wehna2m7wk45.html.

I try to install it from fresh environment, not try to upgrade.

HPC Pack 2012 R2 requires Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Datacenter or Windows Server 2012 Standard or Datacenter as an Operating System on the Head Node. But my Head Node's OS is Win Server 2008 R2 HPC Edition.

I can not find the download page of HPC 2008 R2 SP4. I only found SP4 and it says that it requires an HPC Pack 2008 R2-based cluster with Service Pack 3 installed.

If I find the download links of HPC 2008 R2 SP4 or HPC 2012 R2 I will try.

But the same problem still continues.

  • From the msi log, looks setup failed to create index on HPCScheduler database. Could you try to execute the below t-sql command on Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio? Meanwhile, could you also check the Collation of your SQL Instace or HPCScheduler database?

CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX IDX_NodeName_Guid on NodeName(GUID)
And, it may be worthwhile to try to delete all HPC databases (HPCDiagnostics, HPCManagement, HPCReporting, HPCScheduler) before setup again. Please backup DB data if needed.

  • Sorry for delaying return. I have been out of office for 10 days.

The name of the column in the table NodeName in HPCScheduler database is Guid. But the setup try to execute "CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX IDX_NodeName_Guid on NodeName(GUID)" command. Since, Guid and GUID (as a column name) are not same in TURKISH_CI_AS collation, this command was not working succesfully.

But, after changing the collation from TURKISH_CI_AS to SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS as you say, the command worked succesfully.

Thank you for your interest and help.
