SQL Azure to Sql Server sync using Data Sync Services - where to start? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there

I need to be able to create on-premise backups of our Sql Azure database and in the absence of native backup (DB copy is not enough), I believed that I could use Sql Azure Data Sync (to sync to an on-premise DB, then use native backup against that).  I've seen many articles approaching this from different angles, but ultimately I discovered this presentation http://player.microsoftpdc.com/Session/d60b3b50-a5e8-4132-864c-152bd84be5c8  where Azure->On Premise is discussed and is exactly what I need, without me needing to code anything.  However I cannot find this capability on the SQL azure portal.

I'm confused how to achieve my goal - I would like to avoid writing anything custom with the SDK, but don't want to wait 12 months for the Sync Agent to be released.  Any suggestions how to proceed would be appreciated. How can I get onto the CTP programme for the up to date Data Sync Service/Agent?

    Sincerely

    Pete
