  • Hello MCSE1329252,

    As Carey posted, your cliet's installation of Office 2007 Professional Plus is a volume licensing installation done with a key-gen product key.

    Most people who post here with similar circumstances thought they purchased a genuine retail licensed copy of Office 2007 Professional, but after looking at their mgadiag reports and getting some more detail from them, we have to give them the bad news that they got cheated out of their money, and that their seller sold them a pirated copy of a Volume Licensing edition of Office that is not allowed to be sold to individual consumers.

    If you have a look at the Office Genuine Advantage FAQ, you can check this part of it http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en&sGuid=4ba10af9-ffaa-4cb9-9af4-6aff8a220262#ID0EKNAC  to see if your client might qualify for either a discounted or complimentary replacement for the nongenuine Office.

    In your situation I would ask the client if they paid for the laptop and software with a Credit Card....if so, the CC company's policies may be able to offer some consumer protections to the client on the bogus software purchase; but this could be a tricky thing since it's an international purchase.  Otherwise, the client would have to try to pursue a remedy from the seller of the software, and an overseas purchase may make that a difficult proposition.

    As far as Windows goes, the report is showing us what we would expect to see from an installation of Vista Home Premium done by a major computer manufacturer (OEM SLP license).  The report says the computer is a Gateway W3629, is that true?

  • From your client's MGA report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 108 Invalid VLK
    Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 - 108 Invalid VLK

    What this means is, unfortunately, your "client" has a counterfeit copy of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 installed.  The license (product key) was never issued by Microsoft and was likely created by a software counterfeiter using an illegal product key generator or Key-Gen. Microsoft never received one penny of revenue from the sale of this counterfeit software.

  • Thanks for the bad news.

    re: "As far as Windows goes, the report is showing us what we would expect to see from an installation of Vista Home Premium done by a major computer manufacturer (OEM SLP license).  The report says the computer is a Gateway W3629, is that true?"  Actually, the machine I'm looking at is an eMachine of some variety . . could be a post-Gateway takeover bios, I suppose.

    As the story unfolds, the "new" laptop was provided (loaner) by Euro corp partner and the only thing purchased was Office.  Software was uninstalled before the trip home and re-installed on PC when he got back.

    If I had to speculate any further, I'd be guessing that client bought & expensed software, then 'appropriated' same for home/personal/HomeOffice use.  Tells UK he's taking it home.  Tells US he left it in UK.  And the rest, as they say .. .. ..  Expensed item may have been denied so client feels "I paid, I own." .. .. We may never know.

    I'll advise re: your complimentary offer and leave it up to him.  You guys OK with POP in Euros ? ;-)
