Windows 98 to XP reinstallation, misplaced CDs but have licenses RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an older computer that originally had 98 then had an XP Pro upgrade applied. I would like to reinstall but can't find the CDs. My idea is to use a XP Pro full CD that i have from another computer, but use the Product Key from my first computer. I want to confirm this would work before jumping in, though. Other posts suggest calling the computer manufacturer to get a replacement CD, but that would only get me to 98 (if they still support it). Is that Windows Product Key only good for an upgrade? Any other thoughts on how to accomplish this?

  •  An upgrade product key for Windows XP Professional will only work with an upgrade Windows XP Professional CD.
