GPS Locator Satellite RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently purchased the Microsoft Streets & Trips with GPS Locator.  But it takes around 15 to 20 minutes for it to find a satelite.  By that time it is often too late.

I had used the 2009 version for about three years and it was very fast.  Any idea why it does eventually find it but take so long?

  • Hi Tom,

    1. Do not plug the new hardware directly to a USB port on your laptop. Do use the included USB extension cable. Computers usually generate RF signals that interfere with the reception of weak satellite signals, so keeping the GPS unit further away from your laptop will help.

    2. Make sure the Microsoft logo on the unit faces the sky. Placing the unit any other way will reduce the strength of the signals received by the antenna.

    More tips here and here.
